2016 Riesling Beerenauslese Bottle
Made from the grapes affected by noble rot and produced in very small batches only when the weather is suitable. Block 2 Crain Hill Vineyards has delivered these rare wines. BA was produced in vintages 2013 and 2016. Very sweet, rich and honeyed and is ageable.
San Francisco Chronicle Competition – Double Gold
Tasting notes
Medium gold. Aromatics include coconut milk, pineapple juice, honey, nectar and powdered sugar. Tastes like sweet bread orange cake and syrupy like agave. Up front flavors with mellow acid.
Production notes
Picked the same time as the Auslese but passed and saved for final pick as this sorted the fruit in the vineyard. Destemmed, crushed and sent to the basket press. Our very first wine totally fermented on the wild yeast. We see this becoming a pattern as the finished wine is of highest quality. Spent six months with fine lees before prep for bottling.
