2016 Gewurztraminer SGN Bottle
All Gewurztraminer grapes from Block 3 Crain Hill Vineyard bottled as a true Selection de Grains Nobles (SGN). All clusters were select picked and blessed with botrytis cinereal, or “Noble Rot,” and made only when the quality is high enough to make such an extraordinary wine. Served as a dessert wine but could also be enjoyed on its own. Great aging potential.
San Francisco Chronicle Competition – Double Gold
Tasting notes
Rich gold in color. Look for cinnimon, cider like sweetness, anice, hibiscus and honey on the nose… it’s there. Thick and creamy blend of lychee and pear flavors with a perfect balance of acidity. Rare and great!
Production notes
Discovered a good heaping of botrytis effected fruit after removing the nets for the third and last pick. Sorted in the vineyard then sent to the basket press at the crush pad. Went through a cooling, settling with many racking’s before warming for fermentation. Long fermentation period under cooler temps then saved on fine lees for eight months before prepped for bottling.
